Telecom Analytics: Predictive analytics creates opportunity

Telecom operators around the world are using analytics tools for two major reasons: to become more efficient in their operations; and using analytics in order to manage the cost element and to grow revenue, which is the most exciting part of it. This has involved the use of predictive analytics.

“Being predictive creates the next set of opportunity,” noted Fred Balboni, global leader for business analytics and optimization services at IBM Global Business Services.

Balboni commented about changes caused by the adoption of big data analytics.

“It is a great new opportunity in the area of customer manager,” he noted, adding that a huge break will come from understanding what customers are saying through social media channels and adding that to the internal information carriers already posses.

Leandro Andrade, associate partner of analytics for telecom at IBM, noted that Brazilian carriers are not behind other telco on adopting analytics.

Big data on M2M: The connected enterprise and big data analytics are two of the main trends that will shape the global wireless machine-to-machine industry in 2014, noted analyst firm Berg Insight. According to the firm, the next step in the evolution of the wireless M2M market will be an increased focus on data analytics. Berg Insight forecasts the global number of mobile network connections used for wireless M2M communication will increase by 22% in 2013 to reach 164.5 million.

Claro site management: Claro Argentina tapped Kentrox to provide power and security management at their cell sites throughout Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay. Claro’s recent installation of comprehensive site management includes the Kentrox Optima Management System for visibility and control of Claro’s cell sites and its assets.
