Futurecom 2013: Video interviews on SDN, OTT impact on carriers; small cells; analytics and other topics

RIO DE JANEIRO—The impact of software defined networks (SDN) and how carriers should deal with over-the-top (OTT) providers were hot topics at Futurecom, the largest telecom event of Latin America held in Brazil last week. At the trade show, RCR Wireless News conducted several video interviews about the technology trends and issues affecting carriers and infrastructure providers.

Blue Coat country manager, Jose-Marcos Oliveira, talked with RCR Wireless News’ Roberta Prescott about the increased adoption of security tools after recent cyber espionage scandals. He also talked about how people can make mobile applications more secure.

Genband senior director, Kevin Summers, explained the company’s operations in the region as well as the new technologies carriers should embrace to deal with the effects of OTT providers, among other topics.

Roberta Prescott interviewed Promonlogicalis portfolio manager Fabio Hashimoto about SDN’s impact on telecom operators and how they should take advantage of this concept.

HP is positioning for NFV, analytics and small cells: Jeff Mucci, RCR Wireless News CEO and editorial director, interviewed David Sliter, HP’s vice president and general manager for communications, media and entertainment solutions.

Ruckus plans to offer virtualized control plane, location-based SaaS and API interfaces. Ruckus CEO, Selino Lo, shared the company’s telecom software roadmap with Jeff Mucci of RCR Wireless News.

Vitus Flemming, vice president of sales for the Carribean and Latin American region at InfoVista, spoke about major trends in Latin America over the last few years, such as the explosion in 3G traffic and changes in legislation.
