Spirent Communications’ 8100 Mobile Device Test System has been chosen by test lab SGS to expand its Voice over LTE/IMS and TDD-LTE testing.
“We view the goal to successfully rollout LTE as setting a new bar for us in supporting the wireless network operators and device manufacturers. The quality of preparation and collaboration in the industry will directly map to the QoS delivered to each and every mobile user,” said Michael Spitzer, global wireless manager at SGS.
“Understanding the pressure on network operators and device manufacturers, Spirent has made a deliberate push to deliver the most proficient test capabilities to the leading authorized labs, including critical features such as VoLTE E911, TDD-LTE and IRAT [InterRadio Access Technology] mobility,” said Rajat Agarwal, director of product management for Spirent. “Our continued partnership with SGS is a strong testimony of our commitment to support carriers and their ecosystems in the successful rollout of VoLTE.”
— Anite reported results for the six months ending Oct. 31, reflecting lower year-over-year revenue for the period and impact on the demand for handset testing.
Revenue was down 6% year-over-year to 57.5 million pounds sterling, with profits down 64% to 5.1 million. Anite noted that handset testing was “impacted by [a] slow start to [the] year and delays to orders driven by significant industry consolidation;” however, the company added that the fundamental market size and drivers for its wireless business are undiminished and it expects network testing to see strong growth due to LTE roll-outs.
The company also appointed Neil Bass as its company secretary this week; he joined Anite in 1992 and has held a series of senior finance positions, including his current position of Group Financial Controller. Bass takes over from Richard Amos, who remains as Group Finance Director.
—Ixia has completed the acquisition of Net Optics for $190 million. Net Optics provides total application and network visibility solutions, including monitoring and security. The acquisition gives Ixia a more comprehensive portfolio and positions it as a “single resource” to address the needs of service providers and enterprises, the company said.
“The combined Ixia and Net Optics portfolios will enable our customers to achieve end-to-end visibility and security into their networks so they can focus on what truly matters – customer quality of experience,” said Errol Ginsberg, Chairman and Acting CEO at Ixia. “This acquisition reaffirms our commitment to grow our network visibility business, expand our enterprise and service provider customer base and broaden our channel and partner sales program.”
The company also announced this week the expansion of its IxNetwork application portfolio, which provides validation of the scale and performance of OpenFlow controllers by emulating OpenFlow v1.3 switches. IxNetwork 7.20 can emulate thousands of switches to stress-test an OpenFlow controller for software-defined networking (SDN) implementation.
