Mobile Minute:
BlackBerry is adding free voice calling to its popular BlackBerry Messenger app for iOS and Android. Calls can be made over Wi-Fi or cellular networks, as long as both parties have the BBM app. BBM was once the leading over-the-top messaging app, offering real-time communication that is usually faster and cheaper than texting. BBM almost died out with the decline of BlackBerry smartphones, but it has found new life on iPhones and Android devices. Now BlackBerry is making significant upgrades — in addition to voice, BBM is getting file sharing and real-time location sharing. BlackBerry says the app update will be available starting February 13.
