As clients increasingly demand mobile devices with greater abilities for work and entertainment purposes, a number of providers have unveiled new offerings to address these needs. Several companies, including Samsung, LG, Nokia and Sony, have recently announced new smartphones and tablets.
Next Generation Galaxy S available
Samsung recently expanded its smartphone line with the addition of the Galaxy S5, which will be available this spring. The device features a 5.1-inch display and a 16 megapixel rear-facing camera. The hardware is ideal for photos due to its phase detection auto focus, real-time high dynamic range and selective focus mode. The new offering also has a mode that can recommend different capabilities to users, and a studio of editing tools.
LG's new smartphone introductions
This week, LG Electronic introduced two new smartphones: the LG F70 and the LG-E985T through China Mobile.
The LG F70 leverages the most up-to-date version of Android's KitKat operating system and a 1.2 GHz Quad-Core processor, which the company noted makes it appealing to a considerable number of LTE customers. The compact device features a 4.5-inch WVGA IPS display and removable 2,440 mAh battery with the largest available capacity. The LG F70 also comes loaded with advanced security and UX features like Knock Code, which allows users to power up and unlock the hardware by entering a personalized, patterned code on the lock screen.
The LG-E895T is a 4G smartphone that has a 13 megapixel camera, a 1.7 GHz Quad-Core Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 processor and a 2,940 mAh battery. The device also features a 5.5-in 1080p high definition display with a 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution at 400ppi. Additionally, the LG-E895T can be connected to any network outside of China due to support availability for both TD-LTE and FDD-LTE.
Nokia unveils Nokia X product family
Nokia recently announced the availability of a new portfolio of offerings – the Nokia X, Nokia X+ and the Nokia XL – to provide for the increasing demands of the 'next billion' customers. The devices feature Android and Microsoft service support, and leverages the tile-based user interface popular on the company's Lumia devices. The Nokia X has a 4-inch IPS display and 3 megapixel camera, and, along with the Nokia X+ and XL, is available in a range of colors. The new product offerings are powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon dual core processor and includes Dual SIM support. Nokia also unveiled the Nokia Asha 230 and Nokia 220, which are specially designed devices for first-time Internet and mobility users.
The new devices leveraging the Nokia X platform are based on the Android Open Source Project, which enables developers to enter and benefit from the fast-growing market sector. Popular applications are also available for the X family hardware options, including Facebook, Twitter, Spotify, Skype, Vine and several others.
Sony announces new Xperia devices
Sony also announced new devices this week which come as part of its Xperia product family. The new hardware includes the Xperia Z2 smartphone, the Xperia Z2 tablet, the Xperia M2 smartphone and a new line of SmartWear devices. Both the Z2 tablet and smartphone are waterproof, and feature innovative light technology and best-in-class displays. The smartphone and tablet also have 4K recording and Digital Noise Cancelling, and are powered Qualcomm Snapdragon processors. The new Xperia M2 smartphone is one of the slimmest devices in the product family, with an OmniBalance design an 8 megapixel Exmor RS for camera capabilities. Sony also introduced new wearable technology, the SmartBand SWR10, which will be available in March.
Lenovo's S-Series smartphones
Lenovo introduced the S860, S850 and S660 this week as part of its S-series smartphone family. The devices have quad-core performance capabilities and a longer battery life than previous offerings for an overall improved user experience. The S860 includes features aimed at mobile professionals, including a 40-day standby time and 24-hour 3G talk time. The S850 was designed with fashion in mind, and provides a lightweight and slim all-glass exterior, dual cameras and a 5-inch display. The S660 was designed for heavy media users, and comes with an extended battery life and a cost-effective price.
