Samsung, STMicroelectronics, Whotspot release new devices

Samsung, STMicroelectronics and Whotspot announced the release of new devices this week, including offerings for Galaxy users, an expanded wearable technology portfolio and specially designed hot spots.

Samsung offers Galaxy Core Advance accessories
On March 14, Samsung released a statement announcing the availability of several advanced accessories for Galaxy users with specific needs. The company now offers an ultrasonic cover, an optical scan stand and voice label capabilities to help individuals gain a seamless user experience. The ultrasonic cover enables device owner to identify items and obstacles up to two meters away and alert the person through vibrations or TTS feedback. Visually impaired individuals can hold the cover in front of them for an improved awareness of their surroundings. Galaxy owners can also benefit from new optical scan stand capabilities, which is specially designed to hold the device so that it may scan printed materials and read the content aloud to the user. The new voice label offering enables individuals to distinguish between different items by creating notes and voice tag labels on their smartphone while on the go. For example, a user can record a short message about a certain electronic, including what the item is and how to use it, to help them identify and operate different systems.

STMicroelectronics' devices for wearable tech development
STMicroelectronics also made new devices available this week, including offerings to help bolster the wearable technology market. The company expanded its wearable tech portfolio with new sensors, audio amplifiers, op amps, analog switches and battery gas gauges. These building blocks help developers establish and build wearable technology systems. The organization noted that wearable devices have made a considerable impact on the technology sector recently, and the trend is poised to continue. According to Strategy Analytics, the wearable applications market will likely grow by more than 70 percent through 2017.

Whotspot releases Wi-Fi hot spot for marinas
Boating enthusiasts can now have Internet access from the comfort of their watercrafts with Whotspot's newly released Wi-Fi hot spot specially designed for use within marinas. The hardware enables marina goers to display a custom portal page, such as those seen within hotels and other establishments. Users can also provide Web surfing coupons and accept credit cards with the marina hot spot. Once connected to an Internet modem, the device can be managed via the cloud and new access points can be added as necessary. The new offering enables marina owners to provide flexible Internet access to slip renters, allowing them to offer this amenity for free or for a monthly charge.
