Telecom Software: Bright House implements Cisco solution, Entel S.A. deploys Ulticom Diameter Signaling Controller

In this week's telecom software wrap-up, Cisco announced that Bright House Networks is leveraging the Cisco Network Convergence system as a means to improve service delivery. Additionally, Imagination releases the highest quality WebRTC platform available and Entel S.A. implemented Ulticom's Diameter Signaling Controller within its mobile network.

Bright House boosts efficiency with Cisco Network Convergence
On April 17, Cisco announced that Bright House Networks had deployed Cisco's network fabric family Cisco Network Convergence System. The technology will serve as the foundation for Bright House Networks' enterprise cloud-based managed services, including its hosted voice, contact center, application and infrastructure-as-a-service offerings. The use of Cisco's Network Convergence platform will also enable Bright House to provide the business community with managed security, Wi-Fi, traditional voice and data, as well as network transport services.

Bright House is leveraging the Cisco Network Convergence System 6000, which features an industry-first line card capable of supporting 1 terabit per second. The system can also transmit as much as 5 terabits per second, with a total platform capacity of 1.2 petabits per second. Cisco's Bill Gartner, vice president and general manager of high-end routing and optical group, said Bright House will now be able to make the most of its network by offering carrier-level, cloud-based managed services to its clients.

"With our widely evolved programmable network solutions for converged networks, we are now able to deliver software-defined networking and other network functions virtualization innovations that accelerate new business possibilities for Bright House Networks," Gartner said.

Imagination's WebRTC media engine
Also on April 17, Imagination announced the newly available HelloSoft WebRTC media engine, a platform for the delivery of high-quality WebRTC-based voice and videoconferencing technology. The open engine is supported by Opera, Mozilla, Google and other major organizations and allows users to establish online real-time communications multimedia programs including video chat, file and screen sharing and other two-way connections. The media engine includes enhanced voice quality to improve the use of speak phones across different platforms, the ability to reduce packet losses by 30 percent and an optimized processor with support for Android, iOS, Windows and Linux operating systems. Disruptive Analysis director Dean Bubley said there has been rising adoption of WebRTC programs in mobile devices where new capabilities are boosting developers' interest in the technology.

"Audio/video quality is an important element which will help drive widespread consumer adoption," Bubley said. "It's good to see innovation and focus in that domain."

Entel S.A. mobile network includes Ulticom's Diameter Signaling Controller
On April 15, Ulticom announced that Entel S.A. had installed its Diameter Signaling Controller in its mobile network. The signaling controller technology will serve to streamline multi-operator interworking, routing, load balancing and transaction persistence. Entel's deployment of the software also features Ulticom's Service-Oriented Routing product, which improves diameter signaling load across server pools.

"We see the Ulitcom Diameter Signaling Controller as an important part of our Diameter signaling deployment strategy going forward," noted Hugo Miranda Centellas of Entel Boliva S.A. "The Ulticom solution provides us with the versatility to integrate the DCS into our service offering and quickly realize cost savings that would not have been possible otherwise."
