Google is reportedly adding Wi-Fi hotspots to its planned offering for cities that are candidates for its Google Fiber service. Google Fiber promises 1 gigabit broadband service, and the search engine giant is in the process of negotiating rights of way with cities all over America. Adding Wi-Fi to the equation would mean even more negotiations with municipalities. For Google, Wi-Fi is very compelling because it could offer the search engine giant more opportunities to target users with location-based advertising.
