Mobile Minute: The Mobile Minute is sponsored by SpiderCloud Wireless. Mobile service providers are preparing to support text-to-911, for situations in which a victim cannot or will not speak. Texting to 911 could become more and more common as the younger generation comes of age. Verizon Wireless, AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile US will start supporting text-to-911 on May 15, but it will roll out gradually as local emergency call centers get onboard. When someone sends a text to 911, it is routed by the local public safety answering point (PSAP.) Regional operators also plan to start offering text-to-911 service. Keep an eye on RCR Wireless News for coverage of that later this week. |
