Google recently announced its entry into the connected car market with Android Auto, a new competitor to Apple’s CarPlay solution. Many auto makers have already committed to one or both of the companies for head unit systems – but will auto makers have to cede control of a major point of customer engagement? There are also significant buying implications for customers who have mobile phones that may not match the operating system of the car they would like to purchase.
The connected car market was a hot topic at the recent LTE World Summit and is expected to see significant growth. Airbiquity’s solution is used by automotive manufacturers such as Nissan, and is deployed in more than 30 million vehicles.
Scott Frank, VP of marketing for Airbiquity, discussed trends in the connected car market with reporter Kelly Hill, including the involvement of Google and Apple and the issues surrounding the increasing integration of smartphones. An RCR Wireless News interview.
