Editor’s Note: The ecosystem of big data and analytics, and its intersection with mobile networks and cloud computing has increasing relevance to wireless in areas that include service assurance, customer experience management, mobile marketing, location-based services and more. Here is a look at the week’s news in this space. 
–Startup Espresso Logic is introducing a common API for big data and SQL data and the back-end development for web and mobile applications. Espresso’s CEO, R. Paul Singh, said that building apps and integrating with partner systems often means that data from multiple sources needs to be handled in a single request and that customers want an API that enforces authentication, access control and business logic.
Espresso said its technology enables faster mobile and web app development by enabling the quick creation of APIs that join data sources.
— Telecom company Bandwidth, which operates Republic Wireless, said marketing and analytics company KeyMetric has chosen its APIs for call tracking and analytics. The APIs will allow KeyMetric to tie phone calls back to originating source, ad, keyword or search term. Bandwidth said its processes allow businesses to demonstrate digital marketing ROI and shift more money from traditional marketing forms to mobile and digital.
Bandwidth’s APIs support, among other things, real-time call detail reporting for integration with ad servers, management and tracking of active calls, and the ability to know which marketing campaign prompted the contact.
–Fleet management is one area where data and analytics from mobile can improve business intelligence and operations, and AT&T said this week that it has new solutions for the transportation vertical. AT&T said its fleet management offerings include near real-time information on deployed vehicles and equipment and provide automatic updates to field managers for purposes such as monitoring driver behavior and vehicle conditions, identifying faster routes, tracking hours of service and idle times and updating customers with a vehicle’s location.
Mike Troiano, VP of advanced mobility solutions at AT&T Business Solutions, said the company has seen an 85% increase in its number of end users since 2012 and that companies “are looking beyond smartphones and tablets to help mobilize their business.”
–Big data and analytics company Teradata’s campaign management offering for data-driven marketing, its Customer Interaction Manager, won a Gold Stevie award at the 11th annual International Business Awards.
–More business intelligence information is moving to anywhere, anytime mobile access, with two announcements in that area this week. Benchmark Email marketing service launched a free Android mobile app this week that allows tracking and sending of email newsletters, creating draft campaigns, integrating YouTube videos and access to sophisticated reporting, from a smartphone. The company already has an iOS version to enable access on Apple devices.
Global email marketing company AWeber also introduced a new app for Android and iOS for monitoring email marketing performance, including viewing detailed statistics on subscribers, open rates and other pertinent facts.
“The majority of our customers want to access their email marketing stats while on-the-go, so the new app is designed to give them instant access to their AWeber account anywhere and at any time,” said Joe Cotellese, AWeber’s director of product development.
