RF engineers are learning that experience with DAS can open doors when it comes to finding a new position. Twenty-seven percent of the RF engineering jobs posted on telecomcareers.net include DAS (distributed antenna systems) in the job description. Employers like KMB Design Group and recruiters like Matrix Resources are looking for RF engineers who can perform RF testing through DAS, and who can integrate new eNodeB’s into existing DAS. Engineers with experience performing site visits and surveys for DAS are also in demand. Engineers who can help identify the need for a DAS and design the system seem to have an added advantage.
ABI Research believes the overall market for in-building wireless equipment is already worth $4.4 billion, and that DAS represents well over half of that value. The firm projects an $8 billion market by 2019, with DAS still representing the lion’s share of indoor deployments. In addition, several mobile operators and tower companies are deploying outdoor distributed antenna systems.
