A conversation with Satyendra “Tripps” Tripathi, Director New Tech Prod Dev Eng, Services Design and Development, AT&T
AT&T has been for a long time a very proactive proponent of SDN and NFV which are the key components of Domain 2.0. Our conversation with Tripps Tripathi, Director New Tech Prod Dev Eng, Services Design and Development, AT&T, gives us an update on AT&T Domain 2.0 and on the learnings from the initial stages of the transition to a virtualized network.
“One reason we got into NFV is that we realized that if we have to push services faster and sooner and have to reap the benefits of reusability and scalability, NFV is the way.” Tripps told me. “In our journey to NFV and SDN, we’ve learnt a lot. We’ve seen challenges. We’ve embraced those. What we are seeing is that some functions will be virtualized first. Some of them can be virtualized as of today, but there are certain functions that will be virtualized later. Functions like media functions, which require intense traffic processing, will probably be virtualized later when these get more mature.”
