Carrier promises to cut current bills in half
Sprint continues to aggressively target its larger rivals, announcing this morning a new promotion that promises to slice in half the current monthly bill for customers of Verizon Wireless and AT&T Mobility.
Sprint said the promotion, cleverly dubbed the “Cut Your Bill in Half Event,” will provide current Verizon Wireless and AT&T Mobility customers with unlimited voice calling and text messaging and match their current data allotment for half the price they are currently paying. In addition, Sprint said it will also provide up to $350 in a Visa prepaid card to help cover the cost of buying out a customer’s current contract from either rival.
To take advantage of the promotion, which begins Dec. 5, customers will need to upload a copy of their current bill to a special website and take a copy of their latest bill and all of the phones they plan on turning in for the switch to a Sprint retail outlet. Then, a Sprint employee will select a rate plan with a data bucket most closely in line with their current plan, and the customer will then need to either pay for their new device in full or sign up for Sprint’s device financing option.
The move is the latest in a number of recent moves by Sprint to generate interest from consumers at the expense of its rivals. Sprint late last month updated rate plans tied to Apple’s iPhone devices, remodeled its family plans, launched new individual plans and has aggressively marketed its “double the data” promotion.
Sprint’s aggressiveness started with a management shakeup that in August saw long-time CEO Dan Hesse replaced by board member Marcelo Claure. Claure promised to move quickly in rolling out new rate plans and offers to counter the carrier’s sagging fortunes, which continue to plague the operator’s bottom line.
