Telenor and TeliaSonera team up to take on Denmark
Telenor and TeliaSonera announced plans to merge their operations in Denmark. If the merger proceeds, both companies will hold a 50% stake in the venture. The deal would result in the combined operations controlling 40% market share.
Last week RCR Wireless News reported that Denmark ranked No. 1 as the world’s most connected country in the International Telecommunications Union’s ICT development index.
China Tower Company planning 1M towers
China Tower Company is planning to build more than 1 million towers in the next two years. Earlier this year, China’s three leading operators announced that starting in 2015 they will no longer build new towers. China Tower will now be in charge of building and maintaining the towers for China Mobile, China Telecom and China Unicom. Construction is already underway in some regions.
M1 rolls out LTE-A
Singapore operator M1 announced that it has rolled out nationwide LTE-Advanced services. The carrier said the network offers download speeds of up to 300 megabits per second. All existing customers and new customers will be able to use LTE-A at no extra cost.
China Telecom reaches Down Under
China Telecom is launching a mobile virtual network operator service in Australia. The service, called CTExcelbiz, will cater to Australia’s Chinese population. The company reportedly provided 4G service to the Chinese government delegation during the recent G20 summit.
