CES 2015: Connected brain health showcased

LAS VEGAS – From wearables to connected pain relievers to fitness devices, CES 2015 is the place to be for connected health products. A big trend at this year’s show is connected brain health.

Muse is showcasing a brain sensing headband to help keep your mind sharp. The company compares the headband to the equivalent of a treadmill for your brain. The headband promises to reduce stress, improve emotional health, and give an overall feeling of self control.

The technology allows users to connect the headband to an app via Bluetooth. It then takes a snapshot of the user’s brain to monitor signals. Muse then guides the user through exercises to improve focus. If your brain wanders, you receive notifications in real time. The headband is designed to improve concentration by pin-pointing distractions, and training the brain on how to remain focused.

The devices are being sold online for $199.

IEEE Globecom is also showcasing the power of the mind. At the IEEE Globecom booth, people can race toy cars using only their minds. Participants wear headbands, developed by Emotiv, that analyze brain waves. In order to make the car accelerate, players must focus on moving the car as fast as they can.

The Emotiv headbands also allow users to push, pull, rotate, and even levitate things using only their minds. The Emotiv headbands start at $499 and will be available for purchase in April.
