Developing: Telenor close to buying stake in Tata Teleservices

CNBC has reported that Telenor is close to acquiring a majority stake in Tata Teleservices. Sources told CNBC that Telenor may be looking to merge its Indian subsidiary with Tata.

The sources report that Telenor CEO Fredrik Baksass will make a trip India to negotiate the deal. A spokesman for Tata Sons said that the company would not comment on the matter.

The Reserve Bank of India recently allowed Tata Sons to buy out NTT DoCoMo’s 26% stake in Tata.

Deutsche Telekom to spend $27 billion on German network

Deutsche Telekom has announced plans to increase market share in its home market. Bloomberg reported that the investment is an effort to gain leverage over rivals Vodafone and Telefónica.

Deutsche Telekom plans to spend the $27 billion on its German mobile networks, as well as landlines, small cells and infrastructure. The process is expected to be complete in the next five years.

KDDI launches designer smartphone

Japanese operator KDDI rolled out the Infobar A03 handset. The smartphone is made by Kycoera and features the Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 chipset, 2 gigabytes of RAM and 16 GB of expandable memory.

The device is expected to only be available in Japan.

EE, Vodafone and Virgin Media sign code in support of open Internet

The decision signifies commitment to the Open Internet Code, which was established to help safeguard net neutrality. The code, which is self-regulatory, commits service providers to the provision of full and open Internet access products.

BT, Sky, O2, Three, TalkTalk, Plusnet and KCOM have also signed the code.
