The network virtualization revolution is set to gain a new event as the Open Platform Network Function Virtualization Project announced plans to host its first OPNFV Summit Nov. 11-12.
The event is set to take place in Burlingame, Calif., with a focus on fostering collaboration among service providers, the networking industry and open-source communities in advancing an open-source NFV platform.
OPNFV, which was formed last year out of The Linux Foundation and counts 49 members, said that while it is still finalizing event details, it plans to include keynotes, technical sessions and hands-on design workshops. Expected topics are said to include building out the OPNFV community, OPNFV and standards bodies, OPNFV operations and applications, and organizational impacts of OPNFV.
Many of those topics were covered in a recent RCR Wireless News feature report on the topic of NFV as well as a related webinar.
The OPNFV Summit has also scheduled a Hackfest, in which developers and community members can work on the OPNFV code base.
“The OPNFV project is unique as it aims to build a carrier-grade NFV platform by integrating and testing existing open-source software components and contributing back into upstream communities based on NFV requirements,” said Heather Kirksey, recently named director of OPNFV. “The summit will offer plenty of opportunities for collaboration between open-source communities and industry experts, to work with the code and the developers who are solving the real-world problems.”
