This week Nürnberg was host to Embedded World, three days of embedded system technology companies showcasing construction elements, modules, full systems, operating systems and software. With roughly 900 exhibitors from more than 35 countries, this is the world’s largest trade fair for the embedded community.
The “Internet of Things” was one of the main topics of the show. From the smallest to the largest exhibitors there was a story available related to IoT. Some of these highlights can be viewed in RCR Wireless News’ highlight video.
Digi International shared its solutions for IoT to control public lighting, enable “search near me” functionality from public buses via Wi-Fi and in-hospital IoT solutions for medical equipment.
Texas Instruments was showing many IoT solutions that encompass wearables, smart cities, building and home automation, manufacturing, health care and automotive. Key to these solutions are building blocks to create innovative solutions that allow OEMs to develop the final products they envision in many form factors and levels of complexity or simplicity.
Intel also had many different options to showcase. Smart factories for smaller enterprises, building automation, smart cameras for security applications and smart vending machines. Intel also talked about a case study in which they worked with Rudin, a property management firm in New York City, to implement smart building solutions they claim saved $1 million in a single year.
Another interesting set of facts from Intel was around big data. In order to help drive a wider market understanding of “what big data is,” they created a big data dashboard. Putting big data into fun and accessible topics. My favorite was the big data cows.

But there are also cats and monkeys if you prefer. And it is Friday, so a bit of humor is always good to kick off the weekend.
