Samsung Galaxy S6 features wireless charging

BARCELONA, Spain – Samsung unveiled its lasted Galaxy models in the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy Edge smartphones at an event prior to the kick-off of Mobile World Congress 2015 in Barcelona, Spain.

Samsung President and CEO JK Shin said the new smartphones are the result of “relentless innovation.”

The company noted a key feature of the new models is wireless charging, with 10 minutes of charge yielding four hours of “everyday use.” Charging the built-in battery is said to take less than half the time of Apple’s iPhone 6, according to Samsung representatives.

The new phones feature a Corning Gorilla Glass 4 screen and a shimmering metal case that transitions from silver to gold and many shades in between. Shin called the phones the “most beautiful” and “most advanced” on the market. Some companies are defined by great design or great practicality, he said. “Some people want both. Next is now.”

The new devices include advances to their camera function, including real-time HDR, a special low-light shock feature that combines multiple photos to create the brightest image, and a 5.9-megapixel front camera.

Samsung EVP Younghee Lee said: “We started from the ground up and reached a whole new level.”

The new phones also feature Samsung Pay, which is compatible with any type of near-field communications, along with any sort of magnetic swipe.
