SK Telecom announces trio of MoUs tapping into LTE network experience
South Korean telecom provider SK Telecom said it has signed memorandum of understandings at this week’s Mobile World Congress event with a trio of partners in a move to expand network advances. Those partners include Taiwan Mobile, Skytel and Nokia Networks.
The Taiwan Mobile MoU will see SK Telecom provide insight into improving Taiwan Mobile’s LTE network performance and customer experience management services. The two also said they will work on developing next-generation mobile network technologies and mobile solutions.
Taiwan Mobile and SK Telecom had previously worked together on 3G and LTE network planning and optimization, which they claimed allowed Taiwan Mobile to attract more than 1 million LTE customers within six months of its service launch.
Mongolia-based Skytel is set to access SK Telecom’s consulting service in LTE network technologies and network-based solutions designed to enable real-time management of customer experience. Skytel is looking to rollout LTE services inline with planned spectrum allocations scheduled to take place in Mongolia over the next year.
SK Telecom had previously announced carrier partnerships, including a deal late last year with Telecom Italia to work on LTE and the “Internet of Things.”
Finally, Nokia Networks is set to expand its collaboration with SK Telecom in accessing the telecom provider’s network operational experience to Nokia Networks’ international customers. That experience is expected to include SK Telecom’s advances in LTE technology, including multicarrier, LTE-Advanced and tri-band LTE-A carrier aggregation.
Financial terms of the deals were not announced.
