Ericsson and Opera offer marketing services for operators
Telecom powerhouse Ericsson announced a partnership with software firm Opera that will provide mobile network operators with a new content-delivery solution.
The new product offering joins Ericsson’s Media Delivery Network with Opera’s Rocket Platform.
From the perspective of an MNO, the new service enables in-session content delivery, messaging and advertising.
Included in the agreement is access through Opera’s Mediaworks advertising platform.
Opera CEO Lars Boilesen said the new platform will facilitate “highly targeted” interactions with potential customers.
“We are pleased to form this partnership with Ericsson,” he said. “The collaboration integrating our new Rocket Platform into the Ericsson Media Delivery Network allows operators to interact with their customers in a highly targeted manner, providing offers, promotions and recommendations advantageous to both.”
Ericsson’s software-based delivery model, plus Opera’s advertising expertise, is meant to provide MNOs with monetization by adding value to the media chain.
Ove Anebygd, Ericsson’s VP and head of solution area media, pinned the value to MNOs as flexibility and scalability.
“Right now operators face the real challenge of generating sustainable business growth as network traffic scales rapidly and the new Internet-based apps erode some of the traditional consumer services they provided.”
Anebygd continued: “This partnership really enhances the Ericsson Media Delivery Network solution as part of our MDN Connect framework, enabling our operator customers to deploy new services, and grow new revenue through leveraging the wider Opera ecosystem and browser-based capabilities on consumer devices.”
The platform supports network function virtualization and configuration, and uses a cloud-based architecture capable of dynamically allocating network resources.
