Make your car a connected car with aftermarket product

AUSTIN, Texas – Pioneer, known for its car audio equipment, was at the annual South by Southwest interactive, film and music festival to demonstrate an aftermarket platform that can make any car a connected car.

Pioneer is currently selling three head units – the AVIC-8100NEX, AVIC-7100NEX and the AVH-4100NEX – that support both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay operating systems.

Pioneer representative Harry Kroll demonstrated Google Maps, phone, text, voice-interfacing and music functionality.

“My overview screen shows me … my appointments for the day, my maybe missed phone calls or text messages, that sort of thing will show up in this list right here,” Kroll said.

The units feature a high-resolution 7-inch touchscreen display, an external microphone and integration with steering wheel audio controls. The Pioneer head units also feature HDMI connections, Bluetooth, HD Radio and dual zone audio/video playback.

Ted Cardenas, VP of marketing for Pioneer Electronics’ car electronics division, said in a statement that the platform, “delivers a familiar and consistent user experience that is optimized specifically for the automotive environment with advanced speech technology for quick and easy voice control and a unique visual display of useful and relevant contextual information.”
