TM Forum leadership change to refine focus on digitization, virtualization

Trade organization TM Forum recently announced a management change that saw interim president and CEO Bill Ahlstrom cede his leadership position to board member Peter Sany.

The organization noted the move would help it further its goal of promoting the transformation of its member companies, which include a strong contingent of telecom operators, toward a digital world. Sany brings to the table c-level experience at Swiss Life, Deutsche Telekom and at pharmaceuticals company Novartis, and was a senior global executive at IBM.

“Peter is a superb choice to lead TM Forum,” said Keith Willets, founder and former CEO of the organization. “We have consistently grown by being on top of our members’ most urgent issues, and the biggest one today is transforming to be competitive in a rapidly digitizing world. As technology moves from playing a supportive role to being at the forefront of business, a new breed of technically savvy business leaders is emerging, and Peter is one with firsthand experience in multiple businesses.”

RCR Wireless News spoke with Sany just days after he assumed the helm of TM Forum to get his position on any potential changes ahead for the organization, thoughts on the telecom industry’s moves toward digital platforms, and how it views the growing presence of NFV, SDN and virtualization technologies.

Current TM Forum Chief Digital Officer Nik Willets also provided his view on how Sany’s appointment will impact the organization’s direction, how TM Forum is helping the telecom market evolve with the move toward greater digitization and virtualization, and provided a preview of what TM Forum has planned for its upcoming Live event in Nice, France, scheduled for early June.
