Those affected by the Sprint service outage across portions of the Midwest have had their service restored after the carrier’s network went down for about three hours Wednesday night. The outage affected many major metropolitan areas including Indianapolis, Chicago and Cincinnati.
Sprint spokeswoman Yui Namiki, said that the outage began around 5:20 p.m. Central Standard Time Wednesday, with full service restored by 8:09 p.m. Central Standard Time. Internet access on the company’s 4G LTE service was not affected.
As of now Sprint still does not know what caused the outage, but it does not appear to be from a 2.9-magnitude earthquake that happened in the area.
In a message to customers on Wednesday, Sprint said “Customers are unable to access voice services or text messaging services in multiple markets in the Midwest. Affected markets are up to and including Chicago; Indianapolis; Milwaukee; Cincinnati; North Wisconsin; Central Illinois; Fort Wayne, Indiana; East Iowa. Sprint network teams have been engaged. We apologize for the inconvenience.”
Some customers took to social media to show their frustrations.
While many were frustrated, there was some positive feedback on the company’s Facebook page praising the their quick response to the outage.
“Thank you for calling me so quickly after I sent you a Facebook message and offering the small credit for yesterday’s outage,” the poster said. “I really appreciate the customer service. Thanks.”
