New InControl Touch Pro unveiled at New York Auto Show in Jaguar XF
Automaker Jaguar Land Rover launched its connected car control panel, InControl Touch Pro, in the latest Jaguar XF at the New York Auto Show.
To power the integrated navigation, mapping and location services, Jaguar partnered with Here, which is a division of Nokia.
“Today’s drivers want more than standard navigation or a way-finding app,” said Floris van de Klashorst, VP of connected driving for Here. “Together with Jaguar Land Rover, we have deployed a guidance system that we believe stands out in the industry. It combines the intuitiveness of a smartphone with the benefits of being deeply integrated into the car, with the result being an experience that we believe drivers will enjoy day in, day out.”
Here was prominently featured at the Consumer Electronics Show this year; the technology was used in a connected car demo from Cadillac that RCR Wireless News demoed at the Las Vegas technology showcase.
In the Jaguar Land Rover use case, the InControl Touch Pro is able to learn commuting patterns and driving preferences based on user behavior. The connected car solution actively syncs information from the smartphone app; you can plan a route at home on your phone, get in the car and the route will move over to the in-vehicle head unit.
InControl Touch Pro has a 10.2-inch screen and is connected to vehicle sensors, which are connected to Here’s Location Cloud. To the end-user that means if running out of gas, for instance, the car sensor would coordinate with Here and suggest possible gas stations.
Here uses a Nvidia processor, which was also showcased by the graphics processing unit maker at CES.
Bruno Bourguet, SVP of sales and business development for Here, said the partnership with Jaguar Land Rover is based on the understanding that “consumer devices have rapidly changed driver expectations.”
“As the only company that can deliver end-to-end connected driving services on a global scale, we are proud to continue our long-term relationship with Jaguar Land Rover and enable their drivers to enjoy great experiences inside and outside of their cars,” Bourguet said.
