This week’s episode of Coders features Greg Brail, Chief Architect for Apigee. Brail talked about the importance of API’s for developers looking to take their apps to market. Specifically, API’s now enable developers to directly tap into the power of telecom networks as never before. The growth of mobile has pushed vendors and carriers to provide robust API’s to allow developers access to systems that were once difficult to tap into.

Brail noted that there was once a time when you may have needed access to management at a carrier, along with specific meetings and additional cost to tap into services that are now exposed via API’s. Those API’s help reduce cost and accelerate innovation, adding value up and down the line.
Also discussed was the Internet of Things (IoT), SDK’s (and when you can do without them), the value of open source, and where the current pain points of rolling out API’s are in the industry. Be sure to watch the interview to hear more, with co-host Jeff Mucci.
