T-Mobile US reportedly dropping $100 family plans

T-Mobile US is reportedly doing away with $100 family plans. That means those on the current plans will soon have to find a new way to keep their families connected.

According to a report by TmoNews, the “un-carrier” is planning to discontinue its “4 for $100” and “2 for $100” family plans at the end of the month. The company reportedly released this statement announcing the cancellation:

“Sales associates will have a last chance to sell the unbelievably popular 2 for $100 and 4 for $100 Family Plans until the close of business on [June 27]. At store opening on [June 28], the unbelievably popular 2 for $100 and 4 for $100 Family Plans will no longer be available to new customers.”

But there is good news for those already on the plan. T-Mobile US said customers already on the plans will be able to keep them, and preexisting customers will also be able to add lines to their service.

T-Mobile US began offering the plans last year as one of the staples of its “un-carrier” movement, which included eliminating service contracts.

The 2 for $100 plan includes unlimited LTE data, as well as unlimited texting and voice calls. The 4 for $100 plan offers unlimited text messaging and voice calls with 2.5 gigabytes of high-speed data included on each of the four lines.

New customers in Puerto Rico will reportedly still be allowed to sign up for the plans, but the 4 for $90 plan that is currently being offered there will be discontinued on June 28.

So far, there is no word on a replacement for the plans.

In other T-Mobile US news, the carrier is set to release a new three-in-one SIM card that allows customers to use any SIM card in any device regardless of tray size, as well as a seven-day prepaid plan with unlimited text and voice for $10.
