Verizon CEO lowest paid
It has been a good year to be the top man at the No. 3 carrier in the U.S. In fewer than eight months on the job, Sprint CEO Marcelo Claure made $22 million, according to a Securities and Exchange Commission filing.
Claure tops the list of the four major mobile carrier heads, due mostly to his lucrative stock options. His base salary is just $923,000 with a $2.4 million bonus. The rest of the $22 million comes from company stock options worth $18 million from when he started last August to March 31. This is in spite of Sprint’s share price falling 36% last year.
Sprint also shelled out $11 million to its former CEO, Dan Hesse. This is reportedly part of an over $40 million severance package that includes cash, stock and options.
AT&T CEO and President Randall Stevenson takes second place with a salary of $24 million for a full year’s work in 2014, according to a report by the Financial Times. Approximately $14 million of that total came from company equity.
T-Mobile US’ outspoken CEO, John Legere, came in No. 3 with a salary of $19 million.
Approximately $10 million of Legere’s salary came from equity. Last year, he made a whopping $29 million, according to independent investment research firm, Morningstar.
Verizon Communications, which controls the country’s largest carrier in Verizon Wireless, paid its No. 1 man, Lowell Adams, the least at $18 million. Around $12 million of Adams’ salary came from stock and options.
Other high-paid executives include Sprint CTO Joe Euteneuer, who was among the highest-paid non-CEOs at around $8.2 million, and AT&T CEO of mobile and business solutions Ralph de la Vega, who made almost $10 million last year, according to Salary.com.
