Cisco, Tektronix partner with Ericsson on OSS platform

3-year OSS deals to support Cisco SON, Tektronix analytics services

The movement to align operating support system platforms received a boost this week as Ericsson said it has licensed its OSS interfaces for integration to Cisco Systems and Tektronix Communications.

The three-year deals call for Cisco to use the platform for its self-optimized network product, with Tektronics using the platform for its TrueCall geoanalytics service. The contracts began in August.

The deals are part of Ericsson’s participation in the OSS Interoperability Initiative, which was launched in 2013. That program was initiated by Ericsson, Nokia Siemens Networks (now Nokia Networks) and Huawei to lay the framework for OSS interoperability across their respective offerings. As part of the program, the three companies agreed to fees set on a 50/50 reciprocal basis, a term that extends to others that may join the initiative if they have proprietary OSS interface or interoperability test specifications, otherwise the fee will be on a “fair, reasonable and non-discriminatory” basis.

According to Ericsson, OSSii allows for “pre-verification of products for new network releases, and provides lifecycle management for interfaces. In addition, it allows both OSSii partners and third parties to support network releases without lengthy and complex integration projects.”

Ericsson last year signed a deal with TIBCO to provide middleware for Ericsson’s OSS and business support systems, consulting and system integration services. Ericsson said the TIBCO software would complement its own OSS/BSS portfolio, and that by partnering with other vendors it can offer a more complete solution.
