Sprint’s stadium coverage in its Kauffman Stadium is a home run, according to a report by RootMetrics outlining carrier coverage in the home of the Kansas City Royals.
The Overland Park, Kan.,-based company scored a 94.8 out of 100 in overall data reliability in the RootMetrics study. Sprint’s cellular network posted a median 14.6 megabits per second download speeds and upload speeds of 3.8 Mbps, which was the fastest median numbers of all the U.S.’ major carriers. Verizon Wireless scored a 3.8 Mbps and 1.2 Mbps median speed, respectively.
“At Sprint’s median download speed of 14.6 Mbps, downloading a song would likely take less than 4 seconds,” the study explained. “On the other hand, it would take more than 6 minutes to download a song at AT&T’s median download speed of 0.1 Mbps.”
Sprint also scored 100 out of 100 in reliability at the stadium testing how each network performed in terms of data transfers, e-mail downloads and Web/app tasks. Verizon Wireless came in second with a score of 97.
“Sprint and Verizon recorded excellent reliability results. Meanwhile, AT&T and T-Mobile recorded strong results in connecting to the network in e-mail testing, but experienced difficulty connecting to the network and completing tasks across other data testing,” the study said.
Sprint also claimed the top spot in data speeds with a score of 87.1. Verizon Wireless came in second with a score of 62.5.
“Speeds can impact how quickly network connections are made, how fast e-mail is delivered or how long it takes to complete a Web task, for example,” according to the study.
Sprint’s upload and download numbers at Kauffman Stadium are comparable to speeds recorded in the Kansas City metro area in May 2015. All of the other carrier’s median speeds in the stadium were slower compared to Kansas City.
