Sprint throws free year of Amazon Prime at Samsung devices

Sprint offers 1 year of Prime, lease deals on select Samsung devices ahead of holiday rush

In a move to goose interest ahead of the upcoming holiday shopping season, Sprint is now including a year subscription to Amazon’s Prime service for all customers activating an eligible Samsung device.

The Prime service typically runs $100 per year and includes discounts on shipping, unlimited photo storage, and unlimited streaming of video content and songs.

Sprint’s offer runs through Nov. 30 and is available to existing customers upgrading or adding a new line of service and new customers activating a Samsung Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 Edge, Galaxy S6 Edge+ and Note 5. Those devices can be purchased outright, through one of Sprint’s payment plans or as a subsidized device on a two-year contract.

Sprint is also offering a 24-month lease deal on the Galaxy S6 32GB model for $10 per month or the Note 5 for $17 per month to customers that trade in a qualified smartphone. Those qualified devices include Apple’s iPhone 5c, 5s, 6, 6 Plus, 6s and 6s Plus; Samsung’s Galaxy S4, S5, S6, S6 Edge, S6 Edge+, Note III, Note 4, Note 5 and Note Edge; HTC’s One M8 and M9; and LG’s G3 and G4. The lease deal is available through Nov. 25.

Sprint’s Samsung device deals are similar to ones recently unveiled by T-Mobile US, which at various times included leases as low as free for 18 months on select Galaxy models. T-Mobile US’ current deal is for $10 per month over 18 months on a Galaxy S6 with an eligible trade in. T-Mobile US earlier this year launched the Galaxy S6 with a free year of Netflix service valued at $108.

Sprint earlier this week announced second fiscal quarterly results that showed its first quarter of postpaid “phone” net additions in more than two years.
