A conversation with Vicent Soler, CTO RAN Optimization, Astellia

At Astellia, troubleshooting, monitoring, automation and geolocation are the three pillars to support RAN optimization. With Vicent Soler, CTO RAN Optimization of Astellia, we talked about how operators can rely on this functionality to improve performance and subscriber experience in their networks.
RAN optimization is more effective in real-time. Vicent told us: “The network is alive. It’s changing every minute. You need the means to keep the network under control.”
Operators who have massive maps of coverage can use geolocation. Vicent told us: “Since all the users of the network are becoming drive testers, you can create massive maps of coverage and of quality. Therefore, you can plan where you’re going to deploy new sites in the future. This is very useful for operators.”
For small-cell planning, Vicent told us: “Right now, operators are looking for solutions to offload the traffic from the macro cells, and having information about where subscribers are located is very useful to define the right position to deploy a new small cell.”
This interview is part of our upcoming report “The smart RAN. Trends in the optimization of spectrum and network resource utilization”. We have also discussed this topic at length in our recent RAN Optimization webinar
