Legere cites lack of transparency in Sprint 50% discount offer
T-Mobile US CEO John Legere didn’t let Sprint glow for long in the spotlight of its latest promotional effort, taking to Twitter in questioning the value of his rival’s 50% discount offer.
Legere’s issues centered mostly on what he claimed were a number of ways Sprint’s promotion didn’t take into account T-Mobile US’ full service offerings.
Sprint launched a similar promotion last year under the “Cut Your Bill in Half Event” slogan, which only targeted rate plans from Verizon Wireless and AT&T Mobility. The new promotion included T-Mobile US, specifically targeting the carrier’s recent adjustments to its Simple Choice plans as part of its “Un-carrier X” event from last week.
T-Mobile US CMO Mike Sievert also got in on the Twitter comments, taking a dig at a picture posted by Sprint CEO Marcelo Claure showing a room full of Sprint employees tied to job cuts, to which Claure brought up T-Mobile US’ own recent issues tied to a data breach by one of the carrier’s vendors.
This isn’t the first time Legere and Claure have taken to social media to air their differences. In August the two traded barbs on Twitter following the release of a RootMetrics network survey.
