T-Mobile US to launch rival specific promos starting next week
As part of a holiday promotion, T-Mobile US said it will provide current postpaid customers with smartphones on its Simple Choice plans with three free months of unlimited data access. The promotion is set to begin Dec. 1.
The move was part of the carrier’s holiday promotion plans that it claims will include “a full month of holiday gift-giving, with one special gift coming each week.”
The unlimited data offer includes full access to the carrier’s LTE network and will be offered to all eligible customers of the carrier as of Nov. 23, including enterprise customers. The feature will kick in once a customer plows through the regular unthrottled data allotment and any data in that customer’s Data Stash bucket. The offer does not include any tethering and there was no mention if the carrier’s recently instituted 23-gigabyte data cap limit would be enforced.
In addition to the data offer, T-Mobile US announced device deals for Nov. 27 (black Friday), including a free Samsung Galaxy S6 32 GB smartphone and Alcatel Onetouch Pixi 7 tablet. The Samsung device is tied to an 18-month lease, while the Alcatel tablet is tied to a two-year device-financing program. Customers will have to pay the monthly access fee for the device as well as any taxes.
It should be noted the Alcatel tablet is the same model dissed by T-Mobile US CEO John Legere last week as being a “crappy tablet” when announced as being free for one year from Sprint. The Sprint promotion offered a 50% discount to customers porting their service to the carrier from Verizon Wireless, AT&T Mobility and T-Mobile US.
Moving forward, T-Mobile US said starting next week it plans to target one of its nationwide rivals with a specific promotion each week .
T-Mobile US earlier this month announced its Binge On video-streaming service and reconfigured its Simple Choice plans as part of its “Un-carrier X” event in Los Angeles. The moves includes offering unlimited cellular streaming access to a number of video platforms for customers selecting rate plans with at least 3 GB of unthrottled data services and a $15 per month price increase for customers selecting the carrier’s unlimited data option. Customers selecting the unlimited data plan do have access to 14 GB of data via tethering per month.
