Purchase agreement includes AT&T provided GPS, vehicle monitoring
AT&T picked up an extended contract to provide fleet management services to federal agencies. The five-year “blanket purchase agreement” was awarded by the General Services Administration’s Office of Fleet Management, which currently handles leases on more than 204,000 vehicles to 75 government agencies.
The AT&T services included in the agreement include GPS tracking, vehicle monitoring and diagnostic capabilities, which the carrier said can help the fleets improve operational efficiencies in compliance with a recent executive order.
“Our fleet management services can help agencies meet the new emission targets,” said Mike Leff, VP-civilian at AT&T Government Solutions. “They let agencies cost-effectively manage their vehicles, improve productivity and reduce fuel consumption.”
AT&T has bolstered its connected car and telematics operations, including the launch last year of its Drive Studio in Atlanta, providing a central location for developers and automakers to work on in-car connection services. The carrier also recently pushed forward with its more specific AT&T Drive program targeting the automotive space.
AT&T earlier this year struck a deal with Audi to power the Audi Connect feature in all U.S.-based 2016 Audi models, and announced a pair of initiatives at this year’s Detroit Auto Show for powering third-party platforms from Autonet Mobile and increasing the capabilities of a current offering from Voxx Electronics.
AT&T reported two-thirds of its industry leading 2.5 million net connection additions for the third quarter were from connected devices, which include the carrier’s telematics and connected car offerings.
