Reports: Huawei bringing Honor smartphone to US market

Numerous media reports are speculating Chinese telecom equipment giant Huawei may bring its spin-off Honor brand smartphones to the U.S. market. More specifically, the speculation has focused in on a domestic release for the Honor 5X, which went on sale in China back in October.

As for timing, the 2016 CES event is right around the corner, and is often the stage for major product announcements.

The Honor 5X features a 5.5-inch 1080p display and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 616 chipset containing a 64-bit quad-core and Adreno 405 GPU; the smartphone also has 16 gigabyte of internal storage and a microSD card slot. The Honor 5X has a fingerprint sensor, a 13-megapixel rear-facing camera and 5-megapixel front-facing camera.

All of the media attention started when Honor Global President George Zhao teased a CES announcement earlier in the year during an event in Shenzhen, China.

Zhao said, “The United States market is the highest end market for Huawei, so we’ve been planning for a very long time. The International CES is planned for January, as you know, so you should expect to hear more about our United Staes plan at that time.”

Honor representatives have already sent out press invites for an event during the CES show.
