Smartphone users represent 37% of overall subscribers
Norwegian telecommunications group Telenor surpassed 200 million mobile subscribers in the 13 European and Asian markets in which it operates. That’s up from the 185.9 million subs Telenor Group counted at the end of 2014. Telenor Group said it has added more than 170 million subscribers in the past decade.
The telco said smartphone users currently represents approximately 37% of the subscriber base.
As of the third quarter of the year, Telenor Group’s six Asian operations generated more than 50% of the group’s total revenues and Norway and the rest of Europe about 20% each. In Asia, the European telecoms firm operates in India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Malaysia, Thailand and Myanmar. In Europe, Telenor has mobile telephony operations in Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Hungary, Montenegro, Bulgaria and Serbia.
In the third quarter, Telenor generated revenues of 31.8 billion Norwegian krone ($3.62 billion), up compared to 27.7 billion Norwegian krone in the same quarter the previous year. Telenor’s capital expenses totaled 17.9 million Norwegian krone in the quarter.
The operator has LTE operations in all of its European units. In Asia, the telco offers LTE services in Malaysia and Thailand.
Huawei’s CBG records revenues of over $2 billion in Western Europe
Chinese ICT services provider Huawei’s Consumer Business Group recorded sales of more than $2 billion in Western Europe in 2015. “We have extended our offering in the mid- and high-end smartphone segment and have received very positive feedback from consumers on our flagship products such [as] P8 and Mate S,” said Huawei. “We have extended and improved the retail in-store experience for end-consumers.These efforts are clearly reflected in the high sales performance but also in the increased brand awareness in the region.”
According to recent data published by GfK, Huawei has a market share of 10% in the Italian smartphone market and 13.8% smartphone market share in Spain.
