Verizon Plan expanded to enterprises looking to save a few bucks

Verizon Plan monthly device payment option now being offered to enterprise customers

Verizon Wireless expanded its device payment plans to enterprise accounts, allowing businesses with multiple lines to take advantage of lower upfront costs in return for paying more per month.

The Verizon Plan for Business and Flexible Business Plan are targeted at enterprises with up to 25 lines and 26 or more lines, respectively. Similar to the carrier’s Verizon Plan launched last year, the plans exchange a lower per-month access charge to a shared bucket of data, unlimited voice calling and messaging for customers paying full price for their devices over a 24-month term.

In laying out the financial differences between the two offerings, Verizon Wireless noted activating 20 lines of service using a Motorola Droid Turbo 2 device would cost nearly $4,000 up front on a traditional two-year contract versus $520 up front on the new plan; monthly access charges would be $35 per device on the legacy plan compared with $15 per phone on the new plan; and monthly device payments would be $26 per month on the new plan compared with no monthly payment for the legacy offering.

The net result is on the legacy offering an enterprise would pay $20,800 over the two-year term, while paying $20,200 over the same timeframe on the new offering.

“By spreading interest-free device payments across 24 months, businesses are not hit with significant equipment costs upfront and know what charges to expect each month,” Verizon Wireless said. “These changes give small business owners reliable and consistent monthly wireless equipment charges.”

Verizon Wireless last August rolled out its Verizon Plan offer, which followed the lead of smaller rival T-Mobile US in doing away completely with contracts tied to rate plans. Instead, consumers give up the device subsidy in exchange for agreeing to pay the full price of the device over a 24-month term. Customers can pay off the device at any point before the term is up, though they must pay off the full amount should the look to cancel their service.
