AT&T executives mix includes de la Vega, Stankey and Lurie
AT&T’s ever-expanding wealth of services has resulted in yet another leadership shuffle for the telecom giant’s U.S. mobile unit.
According to a report from CNet, Ralph de la Vega has been tapped to run AT&T’s mobile operations in Mexico and recently acquired DirecTV assets across Latin America. De la Vega will continue to oversee AT&T’s domestic-focused enterprise business and has added a vice chairman position at AT&T.
John Stankey, who had been running AT&T’s Entertainment & Internet Services business, which included DirecTV and U-verse, now adds Consumer Mobility to his business cards, but gives up the DirecTV assets. Both de la Vega and Stankey are said to be still reporting to AT&T CEO and Chairman Randall Stephenson.
Former Consumer Mobility head Glenn Lurie, who in 2014 was named CEO of AT&T’s mobility division to replace de la Vega, will now report to Stankey. Lurie previously served as president of AT&T Mobility’s Emerging Enterprises and Partnerships group and is a long-time AT&T veteran having served as president of its emerging device and resale business, among other positions.
AT&T last year closed on the acquisitions of Mexican operators Iusacell and Nextel Mexico, and has since pushed aggressively with rebranding and integration efforts. The company also closed on its $48.5 billion purchase of DirecTV, which included operations in the U.S. and Latin America.
