Huawei also launched IoT, video and safe cities solutions
Chinese ICT provider Huawei announced five “big initiatives” for the telecom industry designed to accelerate digital transformation.
The five initiatives include what it’s terming big video, big IT, big operation, big architecture and big pipe, described as “everywhere, enabling, elastic, agile and ubiquitous.”
“Digital transformation is a new engine for telecom industry growth and it will also empower the innovation of other industries.” explained William Xu, executive director of the board and chief strategy marketing officer at the company. “Huawei will continue to open up platform capabilities to help carriers to build an open, collaborative and win-win industry ecosystem to accelerate digital transformation.”
During a presentation in London, the company also announced solutions for “4.5G,” “Internet of Things,” 2K/4K video and safe city.
Huawei’s LTE-based narrow-broadband IoT technology is said to enable telecom operators to deliver ubiquitous, cellular IoT services. The Chinese company said this technology will create new business opportunities in smart metering, smart parking, logistics tracking and smart cities.
Huawei also announced its safe city solutions have already been deployed in more than 100 cities across more than 30 countries. Huawei’s safe city solutions are powered by IoT and mobile broadband technologies to deliver video-based security systems for cities. These systems enable governments and municipal authorities to improve their response to emergencies.
Huawei, Deutsche Telekom demo 73 GHz millimeter-wave Mu-MIMO
In related news, Huawei announced it has showcased millimeter-wave multi-user multiple-input/multiple-output technology in a live demo with German mobile operator Deutsche Telekom. The live demo, conducted on millimeter-wave frequencies in the 73 GHz band, achieved speeds up to 70 gigabits per second and claioms of high spectral efficiency.
DThad launched a “5G” program in March 2015, to evaluate potential 5G technology enablers with global leading industry partners.
“We will continue to engage the innovation and evaluate advanced technologies with the leading partners to bring 5G into reality,” said DT CTO Bruno Jacobfeuerborn.
