Sprint, T-Mobile, AT&T Mobility and Verizon Wireless all offered up various promos for the latest Samsung smartphones
Domestic carriers quickly unveiled promotions tied to Samsung’s announced launch of its latest Galaxy S7 smartphone lineup. The deals are all tied to pre-orders set to begin this week.
Sprint rolled out a pair of offers, with the most comprehensive being the launch of its Galaxy Forever program. The deal allows customers smitten with Samsung devices to sign up for a lease on the new S7 or S7 Edge, and after making 12 monthly payments, turn in the device on the latest Samsung “flagship” smartphone. Customers are then provided with a credit each month on the new device equal to one-half of their original payments, with the option to again upgrade to a new Samsung device after 12 months of payments.
The program is similar to Sprint’s iPhone Forever program, which allows customers to upgrade to Apple’s latest iPhone iteration each year. That program was mimicked by Verizon Wireless last year.
Sprint is also offering new and existing customers the ability to buy or lease a Galaxy S7 and receive a second device at half price.
T-Mobile US is going a different – though familiar – route for its Galaxy S7 promotion, offering customers pre-ordering the device a free year of Netflix access, which is valued at $108. Netflix is one of the streaming video services that falls under T-Mobile US’ Binge On promotion, which allows customers to watch streaming video without using their data allotment.
T-Mobile US initially offered up a free year of Netflix in connection with the launch of the Samsung Galaxy S6 and relaunched the offer late last year during the holidays.
AT&T Mobility is integrating sister brand DirecTV into its Galaxy S7 deal, noting the device will be the first allowing DirecTV subscribers access to live TV and content via an embedded application. The application is also said to allow users to control their DirecTV set-top box while at home. AT&T earlier this year rolled out unlimited cellular data plans for customers also signing up for DirecTV service.
Verizon Wireless was the most subdued with its Galaxy S7 promotions, simply porting over its recently announced programs, which include paying up to $650 in credits for customers porting their number over from a rival and offering up 2 gigabytes of extra data per month for customers selecting at least an “XL” data package.
