Verizon is offering 2 GB of free data to customers signing up for the Google Android Pay mobile payment platform and making at least 3 mobile payments
Verizon Wireless is again using data as a promotional tool, this time tied to customers using Google’s Android Pay service.
The offer calls for Verizon Wireless to provide a total of 2 gigabytes of data over two billion cycles to postpaid for customers using the Android Pay mobile payment service. Customers will receive 1 GB of data the first time they use Android Pay as a payment method, and the second gigabyte when they use the service a third time.
The Android Pay service, not to be confuse with Apple Pay or Samsung Pay, is said to be accepted at more than 1.5 million locations and works with Android OS version 4.4 or higher. Google launched the Android Pay platform last May, following its acquisition of mobile payment company Softcard, which was a mobile payment joint venture between AT&T Mobilty, Verizon Wireless and T-Mobile US. Softcard was initially launched in 2011 under the Isis brand.
Verizon Wireless said the free data offer ends June 14, with customers having access to the free data through July 13. The offer can also be combined with other current promotions from the carrier, including its offer of 2 GB of free data for customers selecting at least the carrier’s 12 GB monthly data bucket, which was similar to its offer of 2 GB of extra data for signing up to its Go90 video platform.
