QIVICON smart home platform reaches more than 40 partners
German company Gigaset Elements has jointed Deutsche Telekom’s QIVICON smart home platform, which will add new protocols in the coming months.
The QIVICON platform has an open architecture and is designed to integrate with multiple connected devices and support new revenue generating services.
Gigast offers a wide range of smart home products, including security cameras, motion sensors and location tags.
Last month, Dutch telecom operator KPN signed a deal with Deutsche Telekom to offer smart home services in the Netherlands. KPN was the first international telecom operator to offer smart home services via Deutsche Telekom’s platform.
DT’s Connected Home platform was launched in 2013, with Austrian utility company Eww rolling out a connected home offer based on DT’s technology in 2015. The German telecom operator said more than 40 partners from different sectors including retail, insurance, energy and telecommunications currently use the smart home platform, including Philips, Osram, Miele, Samsung, Huawei, Sonos and Netamo.
QIVICON already supports the HomeMatic and ZigBee protocols, as well as IP-based devices such as cameras, and will also support HomeMatic IP by the second half of this year and DECT ULE by the end of this year or the beginning of 2017.
Deutsche Telekom also said that it is integrating smart home features into the Magenta product family, making the smart home a central element in the company’s portfolio alongside mobile and fixed-network telephony, Internet and IPTV.
French telco Bouygues Telecom to carry out TD-LTE trial in Paris
In other EMEA news, French telecom services regulator Arcep awarded a temporary license to local mobile operator Bouygues Telecom to carry out time division duplex LTE (TD-LTE) trials in the 3400 MHz-3600 MHz frequency band.
The telco will be authorized to conduct tests using 15 megahertz of spectrum in the 3505 MHz-3520 MHz band in the southern Paris suburb of Arcueil.
The trial will take place from May 1 until September 15.
