Ensuring a good voice quality experience with VoLTE requires a robust approach to monitoring, troubleshooting and analytics, that includes passive and active testing, devices and network elements. In this conversation with Michael Campbell, Director of Service Assurance at EXFO we discussed how mobile operators can leverage testing and analytics tools to benefit from the performance advantages from VoLTE.
Because this is an end-to- end effort, business units within operators have to work more closely Michel told us that “the biggest challenge from an organizational perspective is that you cross many silos. In today’s world, particularly with VoLTE, we are crossing large numbers of organizational silos as a call progresses from a VoLTE handset to my office phone here, for example. You cross the wireless silo, you cross the fixed line, the backhaul and transport silo, you cross the IMS silo. We have a system that covers all of those silos and is able to report up into a common infrastructure. For example, we have the Mobile Agent, which can tell you about the mobile and air-link side of the call. We have backhaul assurance, which can tell you about the backhaul. We have IMS assurance, which can tell you what’s happening there.”…Read more.
