Tourists visiting the US can access T-Mobile services, including 2 GB of LTE data, for three weeks at $30
T-Mobile US is looking to attract short-term visitors to the U.S., announcing plans to launch its Tourist Plan beginning June 12.
The plan offers 1,000 domestic calling minutes, unlimited domestic text messaging and international text messaging to more than 140 countries; and two gigabytes of unthrottled data followed by unlimited low-speed data access, with an included 200 megabytes of data roaming. Customers are not able to purchase additional high-speed data access on the plan, though they can use their device and included data access as a mobile hot spot.
For $30 the plan provides services for three weeks, a free SIM card and no activation fee. Visitors looking to access the service will need to stop at a T-Mobile US retail location, with the service not renewable past the three-week period. The plan also does not provide access to the carrier’s Binge On streaming platform or its Mobile without Borders feature.
The plan slots in below T-Mobile US’ current prepaid offerings that were likely an option for tourists visiting the U.S. Those plans start as low as $25 for one month of service, though customers must purchase a SIM card. T-Mobile US currently has SIM cards priced at $20, though has at times run pricing promotions.
T-Mobile US continues to offer its Simple Global international roaming service, providing Simple Choice postpaid customers with free text messaging, data and low-cost calling from their mobile device when traveling in more than 140 countries. The program, initially launched in late 2013 as part of T-Mobile US’ Un-carrier 3.0 initiative, is said to now cover all of Europe and South America. The carrier noted the expansion pushed overall coverage to “more than 90% of the trips Americans take abroad each year.”
