The telecom giant unveiled its AT&T Thanks program offering free gifts for select customers as it struggles with postpaid phone defections
AT&T is tapping into its cache of service offerings for a customer reward program targeting postpaid wireless customers.
The AT&T Thanks program is set to offer qualified customers free movie tickets under the “Ticket Twosdays” promotion, which as the name suggests provides a free movie ticket with the purchase of a full-price ticket for a Tuesday movie through a partnership with MovieTickets.com. AT&T Mobility customers will also be provided with priority presale access to concerts promoted by Live Nation, and AT&T customers who sign up for the company’s DirecTV service are set to gain access to “special content” on their televisions and mobile devices.
AT&T is also promising it will launch other private offers, including tickets to live events, device and accessory perks, and data giveaways. The carrier noted that as the program “evolves, offers will be tailored to customers based on their services and packages with AT&T.” Customers are not required to sign up for the service, as it’s set to be a free perk for those who qualify.
The move could be in response to the carrier continuing to bleed high-value postpaid customers to rivals. AT&T Mobility was trumped by all of its nationwide rivals in terms of postpaid phone growth during the first three months of this year, losing more than 200,000 connections during the first quarter. Smaller rival T-Mobile US managed to attract 877,000 phone connections; Sprint added 22,000 postpaid phone connections and Verizon Wireless lost just 8,000 postpaid phone connections during the period.
AT&T has been aggressively bundling service offers and promotions across its wide stable of platforms, having previously launched unlimited cellular data plans for customers also taking its DirecTV service and unlimited data for standalone home U-verse broadband customers also signing up for the DirecTV service.
