Pioneer Cellular gains LTE roaming access in TNS deal

Regional carrier joins TNS LTE Roaming Hub; gains access to CCA Data Services Hub, which also includes T-Mobile and Sprint

Oklahoma-based regional wireless operator Pioneer Cellular is set to support LTE roaming for its customers through an agreement with Transaction Network Services.

The deal sees Pioneer join TNS’ LTE Roaming Hub, which is designed to provide access to services across the U.S. and international locations in Europe and Asia-Pacific. TNS also will provide Pioneer with professional services, including network-monitoring capabilities.

The carrier noted it had worked with TNS on its code division multiple access-based operations, with Jarry Kadavy, VP of network operations at Pioneer stating the expansion “positions us to gain inbound roaming revenue from a wider array of carriers, including many nontraditional roaming partners we have not supported previously.”

Pioneer also is set to gain access to the Competitive Carriers Association Data Services Hub, which initially focused on 3G services before more recently adding LTE. The program includes nationwide operators T-Mobile US and Sprint.

“Existing members of the TNS LTE Roaming Hub and the CCA Data Services Hub will also welcome the addition of Pioneer Cellular and the new inbound roaming revenue opportunities this creates,” said Joe Lueckenhoff, EVP and GM of TNS’ Telecommunications Services division.

Pioneer also participates in Verizon Wireless’ LTE in Rural America program, which provides customers with nationwide roaming access to Verizon Wireless’ network. Pioneer Cellular joined the program in 2010, which included the leasing of upper C-Block 700 MHz spectrum from Verizon Wireless to construct the network in the Pioneer service areas where Verizon Wireless has not constructed a network.
