T-Mobile and Sprint each touted rousing success connected to pre-orders of Apple’s latest iPhone 7 devices, with the former also claiming higher Q3 port-ins
T-Mobile US and Sprint are both touting success connected to pre-orders of Apple’s latest iPhone 7 devices.
T-Mobile US claims pre-order activity for the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus models surpassed previous launches at the carrier, with last Friday setting a single-day sales record for the carrier, and pre-orders between Friday and Monday “up nearly 4x compared to the next most popular iPhone.” The carrier is offering a trade-in promotion for the latest iPhone devices allowing customers to receive a base iPhone 7 32 gigabyte device for free in exchange for an iPhone 6, 6 Plus, 6S or 6S Plus.
John Legere, T-Mobile US CEO, also took to social media in claiming the carrier is seeing higher port-in ratios during the current quarter from rivals Verizon Wireless, AT&T Mobility and Sprint than it witnessed during the first and second quarters of this year. The carrier led the domestic market in connection growth through the first half of the year, though porting ratios have been a source of debate.
Sprint CEO Marcelo Claure said Sprint was port positive against all of its nationwide rivals during its latest financial quarter, meaning it attracted more customers from Verizon Wireless, AT&T Mobility and T-Mobile US than it lost to those carriers.
Sprint touts 375% increase
Sprint is also touting iPhone-related success, with the carrier claiming a 375% increase in pre-orders compared with last year’s results connected to the launch of the iPhone 6S models. Sprint’s iPhone promotional activity includes the ability to pick up an iPhone 7 3 GB model for free in exchange for customers turning in an iPhone 6, 6S, Samsung Galaxy S7 or S7 Edge model.
Sprint last month offered up an additional $200 in service discounts in an attempt to lure former customers away from their current carrier. The limited-time promotion was on top of the up to $650 in credits being offered to all customers moving to Sprint. Combined, the carrier is offering up to $850 for customers to switch back.
