The Dutch firm said IoT jobs posting requiring IoT-skills grew 70% over the last year
The UK market is experiencing an increasing demand for IoT job skills related to the internet of things, according to Dutch provider of digital security solutions Gemalto.
Gemalto said that the number of postings in the UK for positions requiring skills in IoT-related technologies has increased by 70% over the past year.
The Dutch company also said that the growth in connected devices and implementation of smart city projects are the main fueling demand for IoT jobs positions, citing figure from UK jobs statistics website IT Jobs Watch.
Gemalto also highlighted that cybersecurity positions grew by 73%, with security architecture and security engineer jobs rising by 43% and 9% respectively. Meanwhile, demand for artificial intelligence knowledge has also seen rapid growth, with the number of job positions mentioning this technology increasing by 300% over the last twelve months.
“Growth in smart cities is building interest in IoT but in order to get ahead, companies need to be looking for a range of skills, not just one, to set them apart from their competitors. As a result, we’re starting to see new roles such as IoT Architect and IoT Engineer being introduced to the market as companies look for the best way to tap into the IoT market,” Nicolas Chalvin, VP of M2M and IoT solutions and services at Gemalto, said.
“Given the growth in demand for IoT knowledge, it’s encouraging to see demand for cybersecurity skills also on the increase – showing that organizations appreciate the need to secure the data they collect. As more IoT projects go live, keeping these secure is vital to ensuring consumer confidence in their usage, protecting confidential data and making them a success.”
In a recent blog post, Gemalto’s EMEA communications manager Maria Barbieri also highlighted the increasing need for IoT jobs in the UK, mainly due to the rise of smart city initiatives.
“When you combine this smart city movement with the ever-growing number and demand for connected devices in the market, it really is no wonder why there’s been such an increase in IoT-skilled job positions. Somebody’s got to make sure all these projects and devices in the UK work properly,” Barbieri said.
